That&#8217;s why experienced mold designers turn to&nbsp;<strong>ribs<\/strong>&nbsp;instead.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">But rib design isn&#8217;t just about adding a few features. It&#8217;s about understanding how load travels through the part, how plastic flows in the mold, and how the part will behave after molding.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here are the principles we apply most often.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><strong>1. Watch Where the Weld Lines Land<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Weld lines form where two flow fronts meet. They&#8217;re the weakest points in a molded part \u2014 often only&nbsp;<strong>50\u201380% of the base material&#8217;s strength<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If a weld line sits on a high-stress area, it becomes a failure point.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In practice, eliminating weld lines entirely isn&#8217;t always possible.
